Celebrate Independence Day in Plum-Oakmont

Some fun Fourth of July activities in our area and nearby.

 

Fourth of July is just around the corner, so it's time to celebrate with cookouts and fireworks. Here's a quick look at some of the events going on nearby:

Over the weekend

New Kensington—The City of New Kensington will be hosting a block party and fireworks on Saturday, June 30. The block party begins at 5 p.m. on Fourth Avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets. There will be games, food, music and rides until it gets dark. Then, the fireworks begin!

Three Rivers Regatta—The 2012 EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta begins in downtown Pittsburgh on June 30 and runs through July 4. There are plenty of activities and events to enjoy with the family. For a detailed look, visit www.threeriversregatta.net. Pyrotecnico's "Flashes of Freedom" Fireworks Fantasia will begin at 9:35 p.m. on the Fourth of July at the Golden Triangle.

Celebrate America at Kennywood—Celebrate America's birthday at Kennywood on Saturday and Sunday with special entertainment, an antique car display and fireworks. For more information, see www.kennywood.com.

Fourth of July

Oakmont—The Oakmont Country Club on Hulton Road will host a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome watch the display at Presbyterian SeniorCare and the former Oakmont East properties. People can bring blankets and lawn chairs to watch the display. Police will be on hand to direct motorists and pedestrians.

Monroeville—The annual Monroeville Independence Day parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Miracle Mile shopping center and will make its way down Route 22 to the grandstand at the Monroeville Mall. Zambelli fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. at the Monroeville Mall.

There also will be Zambelli fireworks displays at the Fox Chapel Golf Club and the Springdale Fire Department.
