Dori Tompa Appointed to Riverview School Board
Tompa is a Verona resident and has a child in the school district.
There's a new board member on Riverview School Board.
On Monday, the board appointed Dori Tompa as its new member. Tompa is filling a vacancy created by Dean Hornsby's resignation. The unexpired term runs until December 2013.
Tompa was one of five people who applied for the position. A 15-year Verona resident, she has a child in the school district.
"My husband and I have an 8-year-old son at Verner and we are interested in being part of his education," she said. "My son loves the school and we feel that he is receiving an excellent education. I would like to support this exceptional opportunity."
Tompa said she's looking forward to representing the Verona community on the school board. Currently, she and Lisa Ashbaugh are the only two board members who are Verona residents.
"I'm thrilled Dori is coming on board," Ashbaugh said. "I know Dori very well, and I think she'll do a great job."
Tompa is a graduate of Franklin Regional High School and Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied architecture and music. A former architect for 15 years, she currently works as the executive director for a local non-profit organization that focuses on unique youth learning opportunities.
"I feel that my diverse work and life experiences will be useful to the board," she said.

Awesome! Glad to see another Verona resident representing on school board. I was getting nervous that it would be very lopsided. This is a step in the right direction for sure!
