Weekend Planner: Chili Cook-Off, Musical & Poetry

Here are five events to check out this weekend.

 

Welcome to the Plum-Oakmont Patch's Weekend Planner!

Got no idea what you'll do this weekend? Patch is coming to the rescue! We've got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

It's a good idea to have cash ready for these events.

1. Riverview’s 2012 Musical
Where/When: Tenth Street auditorium, 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: Riverview High School presents “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.” Come watch these local talents perform their 2012 musical!
Pricing: $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens

2. The Oaks Theater Cine Brunch
Where?/When?: Oaks Theater, 10 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Cine Brunch is a light brunch from Oakmont Bakery starting at 10 a.m. and a movie that begins at 11 a.m. This month’s movie is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
Pricing: $6 for movie only, $12 for brunch and movie.

3. The Allegheny Valley Poets
Where?/When?: Oakmont Carnegie Library, 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Poets will read and talk about their work. Come and meet these poets who will hand out copies of poems, read and discuss their work.
Pricing: Free

4. Bingo
Where/When: Plum Senior Community Center, 1 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Don’t miss Bingo at the Plum Senior Community Center. The jackpot is $500 and there will be complimentary pastries and coffee. Anyone who purchases tickets in advance will receive a free gift. Call 412-793-2330 for tickets.
Pricing: $25

5. First Annual United for Life Chili Cook-off
Where?/When?: St. Irenaeus Church, 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: All are invited to the First Annual United for Life Chili Cook-Off. The deadline to submit your own chili recipe has passed, but this event will still be fun for those who just want to eat! The funds raised at the event will support the United For Life, Inc. organization.  
Pricing: $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.
