Let the Halloween fun begin!
There are many Halloween events coming up in the Plum-Oakmont area in the next couple of weeks. We'll have a complete Halloween guide ready for you early next week, but here's a look at some events in the Twin Boros.
The sixth-annual Riverview Women's Association Oakmont' Halloween Poster Contest will be held today, Oct. 20, from noon to 4 p.m. Children in grades 3 to 8 will be painting Halloween- or autumn-themed posters on business windows throughout Oakmont. Individuals or teams of two or three should meet at the Maryland Avenue clock tower for window assignments and supplies. The cost is $3 per person. Prizes will be awarded for first through third place. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m.
The Oakmont Carnegie Library will host a "Spooky Storytelling with Gary Rogers" event on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Local historian and president of the Oakmont Historical Society Gary Rogers—with the help of some of the librarians—will be sharing some spooky stories from Oakmont and the surrounding areas. The event is suitable for all ages, and will be held on the lbrary's front lawn, weather permitting. Cookies and cider will be served. Oakmont Halloween Parade
The annual Riverview Women's Association Oakmont Halloween parade will take place on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the Kwik Fill on Allegheny River Boulevard and end at Riverside Park, where treat bags will be distributed.
Verona Halloween Parade
Verona's annual Halloween parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. All children should meet at the borough building and proceed along a parade route throughout the borough.
Halloween Hustle 5K
The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce and Riverview Community Action Corp. are hosting a Halloween Hustle 5K fun run and walk on Saturday, Oct. 27. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. at Riverside Park in Oakmont, and the race begins at 5 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes. The cost is $10.
