Man Charged After Late-Night Police Chase Ends in Verona
A Troy Hill man has been charged with attempted homicide following the Saturday incident.
A Troy Hill man is facing charges after leading police on a high-speed chase from Point Breeze to Verona Borough early Saturday.
The Pittsburgh Police Department has charged Melvin Taylor Solomon, 41, with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, attempted criminal homicide, driving without a license, speeding, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and two counts of aggravated assault.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the chase occurred at about 2 a.m. in Point Breeze, when officers attempted to stop Solomon for speeding. Solomon took off and led police through Wilkinsburg, Penn Hills, Oakmont and Verona.
According to WPXI, the chase came to a stop in a dead-end alley on the Verona hilltop. Solomon nearly hit an officer when he put his car in reverse, and officers started shooting. The man escaped to his girlfriend's Penn Hills home, and she later turned him in.
Solomon is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. Bail has been set at $75,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4, at 12:30 p.m. before Judge Donna Jo McDaniel at Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
