Ralph Raymond Cupelli, 92, of Penn Hills died Jan. 13, 2013.
Ralph Raymond Cupelli, 92, of Penn Hills, husband of Aimee Sobbott Cupelli, died January 13, 2013. He was born July 8, 1920, in Point Marion, PA, to Raffaele and Assunta Giannini Cupelli. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Domenick and Alfred. Surviving are his loving wife Aimee of more than 67 years, children Ralph (Suzanne), Louise, David (Vicky), Ann (Jackson) McHorney and Robert. Proud grandfather of Aimee (John) Schumacher, Nicholas and Kaitlyn Cupelli and great grandfather of Emma Caroline Schumacher. Also surviving are his wonderful sisters Regina Leoni and Sarah (John) Kauper, sister-in-law Julia (James) Dunston and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Penn State in May 1942, he served in the European Theater during World War II and earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Bronze Star for Valor and Purple Heart. After the war he remained active in the Army Reserve and retired after 28 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was retroactively awarded the French Croix de la Guerre in 2004. After World War II, he went to work at the family grocery store in Point Marion while earning an accounting degree from WVU. He retired as a Cost Accounting Manager at US Steel’s Homestead Works in 1982 after 28 years of service. He was an avid Penn State football fan, a prolific gardener, and a very active member in the 10th Infantry Military Associations. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Verona. Friends and relatives will be received on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, January 17, 2012, 1 p.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, Verona.
