Obituary - Samuel John Occhipinti

Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Samuel John Occhipinti of Verona died .

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Samuel John Occhipinti of Verona died at the age of 81 at home, as he wished, surrounded by family.

Sam was the son of the late Mary (Gurgiolo) and Domenico Occhipinti; beloved husband of 52 years to Adeline (Pinelli) Occhipinti; devoted father to Sam Occhipinti of Verona and Angela (Paul Deemer) Occhipinti; cherished “Pappy” of Gabriella Abraham; brother of Angeline (Robert) Young of Sharpsburg and the late Irene (Vince) Paonessa.

Sam was the owner of B&G Shoe Repair, which began in Miracle Mile Shopping Center in 1954. He began his dedication to his family business when he was just 7 years old as he began working with his father in the family’s shoe repair shop in Lawrenceville.  From there he carried on the tradition by opening up shop in Homewood and then finally settling in Miracle Mile.  One of his greatest prides was to see his children carry out his legacy and continue on in the family business, choosing to serve the Monroeville Community in his honor. His greatest satisfaction was fueled by the love and gratitude of his loyal customers.  Beyond all this, his greatest joy in life was his granddaughter Gabriella, who he cherished with all his heart and soul.  Sam was devoted and hard working.  He was the GLUE who held his family together.  He will be deeply missed by all.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews including Rosemary (Jim) Kee and Nancy (William) Mueller.

The family wishes to thank Horizon Hospice for their kindness and caring and dignity they gave their father in his final weeks.

Friends and family will be received Friday, May 4, 2012 from 2-9 pm in the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, 10 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Verona.
