Pedestrian, Driver Taken to Hospital After Accident in Oakmont

A vehicle-pedestrian accident occurred on Allegheny Avenue Thursday morning.

A pedestrian and a driver were taken to a hospital for treatment after a vehicle-pedestrian accident in Oakmont on Thursday morning.

According to a police report, Oakmont police officers were dispatched to the Allegheny Avenue and Delaware Avenue intersection just after 7:40 a.m. after reports of an accident.

They found a 24-year-old male lying on the roadway next to an SUV.

The motorist, a 69-year-old male from Industry, had been traveling southbound on Allegheny Avenue when the pedestrian ran into the roadway.

According to the report, the pedestrian—an Oakmont resident—told police he was running late for the bus and was running toward the bus stop. Witnesses told police they saw the pedestrian running in the street and commented that he was going to get hit by a car.

The pedestrian was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for an ankle injury and the driver was taken to UPMC St. Margaret for chest pains.

Oakmont police Chief David DiSanti said the matter is still under investigation and he doesn't know if charges will be filed.

Is this the new thing now? Hitting people with your car? Doesn't it seem like there's a lot of this going around? I hope the victim is OK.

It definitely does! Since I began covering the Plum-Oakmont area a year ago, I have covered four vehicle-pedestrian accidents, and I believe there were two others before that. Motorists AND pedestrians need to be mindful.

That is a dangerous crosswalk.. I saw a car slam on breaks, skid and swerve around a woman who when got off the bus, walked in front of it to cross the street. She was extremely lucky.. Well, after September we won't have to worry about pedestrian accidents or near misses relating to the busses.
