Fundraisers for Sunny Carney, Tanner Young Coming Up

Dine out nights and Zumba events will benefit local charities.

Fundraisers benefiting the Sunny Carney Carcinoid Cancer Fund and Tanner's Troopers are upcoming.

Two businesses in the Plum-Oakmont area will be donating a portion of proceeds these local charities. There also will be a Zumba event at Oblock Junior High this weekend.

A Zumbathon fundraiser will be held at the gym on Saturday, March, 3, from noon to 2 p.m. The cost is $10, and proceeds will benefit the Sunny Carney Carcinoid Cancer Fund and raise awareness about carcinoid cancer. who currently is battling cancer. Everyone is asked to wear black and white to support the cause.

Somma Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar

Somma Pizza in Plum Borough will hold a "sunny" night on Monday, March 5, from 5 to 10 p.m. The restaurant will donate a portion of all food receipts to the Sunny Carney Carcinoid Cancer Fund.

Cafe Vita

in Oakmont also will donation a portion of food sales from Tuesday, March 6, through Thursday, March 8, to Tanner's Troopers, which benefits Tanner Young. Tanner, 5, has cerebral palsy and Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN).

Anyone who visits Cafe Vita on the listed dates and mentions the Tanner's Troopers benefit will have 20 percent of their check donated to the effort.

Tanner is the son of Verner Elementary teacher Nicole Young and the grandson of secretary Sandy Savinda. The school's students already for the charity.
