Riverside Park Ice Rink to Open This Weekend
This is the first time the rink will be open to the public.
The time has come for the Riverside Park ice skating rink in Oakmont to open.
Members of the Oakmont Recreation Board have announced the rink will be open to the public this weekend.
This is the second year the rink is installed in the park, however, it never opened last year due to warmer-than-normal temperatures.
Here's a look at the schedule:
Saturdays
- 9 to 11:45 a.m.—Free skate
- Noon to 2:45 p.m.—Family skate
- 3 to 5:45 p.m.—Free skate
Sundays
- 9 to 11:45 a.m.—Hockey free play
- Noon to 2:45 p.m.—Family skate
- 3 to 5:45 p.m.—Ages 12 and older
For the rink to remain open, however, there must be at least one adult volunteer willing to watch the rink—responsible for calling 911 in case of emergency, that there's no rough housing and that the appropriate age groups are using the rink. Anyone interested in volunteering can email regge63@comcast.net.

FYI:
Oakmont Recreation Board: Just to clarify - weather permitting, for the rest of the winter, there will also be skating on Thursday nights (hockey free play from 5:00 - 8:00) and Friday nights (free skate from 6:00 - 9:00) - but for this week-end we are starting on Saturday - NO SKATING TONIGHT!! Full schedule will be posted on Monday and is up at the rink.

It's time to skate! Have fun on the rink this week-end, but remember, this is like having a skating pond back in the day - no rails and some rough spots - and it's skate at your own risk. So be safe and have your kids wear helmets! Have fun!
