Riverview Students Win State PJAS Awards

The students won several awards in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science state competition.

Congratulations to these Riverview High School students who won awards at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science state competition.

The students also won at the regional level that allowed them to advance to the state finals.

First-Place Awards:

Olivia Fischer – Behavioral Psychology
Antonio Paris – Chemistry
John Connolly – Chemistry (with a perfect score)
Tessa Favo – Chemistry
Christian Snyder – Earth and Space Science
Jocey Ostrowski – Mathematics (with a perfect score)

Second-Place Award:

Nick Frankos – Chemistry

Special Awards:

Jocey Ostrowski – D.E. Zappa Award in Mathematics ($75)
Christian Snyder – NSF Astronomy Award ($500)
John Connolly – PA Science Talent Search Award ($125) - required an interview
Antonio Paris – PA Science Talent Search Award ($125) - required an interview

Paris also interviewed for and was selected to attend the four-week National Youth Science Camp in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia from June 27 to July 21, all expenses paid. Annually, only two students from each of the 50 states are selected to attend this camp, and Paris was selected as one of the two Pennsylvania delegates. 

As part of the camp, Paris will attend lectures and seminars from visiting scientists and researchers—past presenters have included Nobel Laureates—participate in self-directed study and research; and engage in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and kayaking. He will spend a night observing at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV.
