Route 286 Crack Sealing Begins Thursday in Plum and Monroeville

Lane closures will occur in both directions, so motorists should be aware.

If you're heading down Route 286 over the next few days, take notes!

Crack and joint sealing operations on Route 286 (Golden Mile Highway) in will begin on Thursday, Oct. 25, weather permitting.

Work will occur between Route 22 in Monroeville and Hialeah Drive in Plum Borough. Short-term, slow-moving lane closures will occur in both directions at various locations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday, Nov. 1.

Crack and joint sealing is a preservation activity that prolongs the life of road surfaces by preventing moisture from entering cracks and joints, according to PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi. Moisture can cause potholes and premature deterioration requiring more costly repairs.

Motorists to use caution, slow down, and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through these areas. Visit 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling.
