Briney Appointed to Oakmont Borough Council

Thomas J. Briney was appointed to Oakmont Borough Council Monday night during council’s regular monthly meeting.

Just one day before the effective resignation of Oakmont Borough Councilwoman Kitty Vagley, council unanimously appointed Thomas Briney to serve as Vagley’s successor.

On Monday, Briney was sworn in by borough Mayor Robert Fescemyer. Briney is a longtime Oakmont resident and former borough planning commission chairman.

Council President Timothy Milberger publicly thanked Vagley for her many years of service to the Oakmont community, as a councilwoman and as a resident. He also thanked the many Oakmont residents who applied for the vacant position—council received about seven applications.

“It was a good problem to have and it speaks well of our community to have so many great residents willing to volunteer,” Milberger said.

Briney’s term will begin on Sept. 12 and will run through Jan. 7, 2014.
