Verona Eye Care Opens on ARB

A new optical has opened on the main boulevard in Verona.

Optometrist Thomas Perka has come back to Verona Borough.

Perka, who worked at the Sears Optical at the Rivertowne Shopping Center from 1998 until it closed years ago, has opened his new business, Verona Eye Care. The new eye care center is located on Allegheny River Boulevard at the Center Avenue intersection.

"I really like Verona," Perka said. "I wanted to get out of the retail business and the corporate setting. I figured coming back to Verona would be perfect."

The Buffalo Township resident visited the area often because his in-laws live in Oakmont. As he drove through Verona one day last year, he noticed the location—a former Cricket Wireless store—was vacant.

"It's a great location," he said.

After a year of renovations and work to the building, Verona Eye Care officially opened on Aug. 10.

Perka, along with office manager and frame/lens specialist Angie McMillen operate the new business. Services include eye exams, lenses, frames, contact lenses, cleaning/adjustments, repairs and more.

Verona Eye Care also offers a variety of frame brands, such as Guess, Vera Wang, Sophia Loren, Coach and more.

During the first two weeks, Perka said he has seen 15 new patients.

"We're off to a solid start," he said.

He and McMillen will be hosting an Open House on Sept. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. for anyone interested in seeing what the new optical is all about. Regular hours of operation are Monday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 412-517-8360 or visit the Verona Eye Care Facebook page.
