Visions for Vacancies: Former 314 Pasta & Prime
The former Oakmont restaurant is up for rent.
About a year after opening, 314 Pasta & Prime restaurant in Oakmont has closed.
Chef Dave Racicot, owner of the restaurant and the former Notion restaurant at that location, is reopening Notion at 128 S. Highland Avenue in East Liberty some time this month, according to the Post-Gazette.
What should go in this location? Another restaurant? Something different? Tell us in the comments!

You have to wonder why anyone would want to open a new restaurant in Oakmont..We here are blessed with a plethora of great restaurants...and the competition is daunting...btw NOTIONS was a strange name for an eatery...sounds like a Card/Book Store...and PASTA and PRIME..no comment good luck in East Liberty...as for a name suggestion..get a Licquor license and go w/ PASTAS and POTIONS

I would sure love to have a good coffee shop (i.e. not starbucks). At least a local chain if not independent. The one that used to be next to PNC was very nice, I miss them.
It seems a tricky business to run a coffee shop well... we probably don't need a place with goofy gimmicks (e.g. no tie-dyed walls please), just comfort, quality, availability (open in the evenings please!), and a range of choices in snacks and drinks from the simple/affordable to the more indulgent.
I have long wished Oakmont was a better destination in the evenings. It's close - we have an interesting small theater, an outdoor ice cream parlor (in good weather) and several good restaurants to choose from. There are some nice sitting areas to "hang out" along the tracks and the gas lighting makes for a nice environment too. A coffee shop open evenings would be a nice addition.
