The Oakmont Historical Society & Edgewater at Oakmont present “A Portrait of Camp Wright” on Sunday July 15, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Riverfront Park, Edgewater at Oakmont.

Camp Wright was a Civil War training camp located along the banks of the Allegheny River in Oakmont. Over 4,000 volunteers from Pennsylvania trained at the camp before going off to fight in the Civil War. There are no photographs of the camp, however by using old newspaper accounts, books, old maps and letters written by soldiers at the camp, artist Tom McCrady has brought the forgotten camp back to life through an ink sketch of the camp. The picture will be unveiled by the historical society at a ceremony on July 15th. Tom McCrady will be on hand to meet and greet the attendees. The program will feature a number of Civil War era performers. A limited quantity of the print will be offered for sale at the reception. The public is welcome to attend.

Sara,
I'm researching info about the Mt jacson Guards (14th PA Reserves, 43 regt, otherwise known as Cooper's Battery B, 1st PA Light Art. They were trained at camp Wright. Do you have any info on the camp and Cooper's? TY Keith Foote
