Pittsburgh Wild Half

April 19, Plum Boro, PA:

Nearly two hundred racers came out for the third annual Pittsburgh Wild Half this Saturday at Boyce Park in Plum, PA.  Bluebird skies, and temps in the mid 60′s, made a perfect day for running. Laura Wolles of Colton, South Dakota rocked out a 1:59:35 to win the woman’s half marathon division, and Jordan Nance of Murraysville, PA covered the hard hilly course in 1:50:07.  Both competitors lead most of the race. Mr. Nance was constantly challenged by second place finisher Brian Swenson of Pittsburgh and Ms. Wolles finished just under 2 minutes in front of second place challenger Kimberly Jokl of Gibsonia.  This course has over 850′ of vertical gain and covers most of the perimeter hiking trails of the park.  Race director Mac McCluskey stated “We Love Pittsburgh, we get such positive support from everyone especially the local residents, it would be impossible to have this great event without the support of this community.”

Most racers agreed this was a very hard, hilly course.  Comments from the racers after the event were:  “I loved this course it’s challenging, it tests your endurance, without killing you!”…  “Very well organized!”… “A terrific course!”…  “I’ve done 6 half marathons and 1 full marathon, this half course kicked my ass”…”good event”…”the course designer? I loved him and hated him all within the span of 2 hours”…”The Easter egg hunt, for the kids, after the race was a really nice touch, how much fun”
