Obituary - Chester A. “Chick” Johnston

Chester A. “Chick” Johnston, of Oakmont passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the age of 90. 

“Chick” was the beloved husband for 66 years of the late Elizabeth C. “Betty” Johnston; dear father of Virginia “Ginny” (Jack) Kostur of Weirton, WV, Charles (Suzy) Johnston of Shaler, Judy (Jim) Schwartz of Squirrel Hill, and David Johnston of Reistertown, MD; devoted grandfather of John Ryan (Marie) Kostur, Linsay (Brad) Mermon, Katie (Brad) Schneider, Mary Elizabeth, Julianna, Douglas Curtis Johnston; great-grandfather of Peyton, Bradyn, and Mady. 

Chick was a WWII US Navy Veteran, member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the session, and a member of Oakmont Country Club.  He retired from PPG at age 65, in 1989 having over 40 years of service as a patent attorney.  After retirement, he pursued his love of painting.  He served on the Riverview School Board and the Oakmont Water Authority Board.

Chick will be remembered for his love of family, and his lifelong dedication to the Oakmont Community.  He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be remembered and missed by the many friends that he touched and was loved by. 

Friends and relatives will be received on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 2-4:30 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont.  A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Avenue, Oakmont.
