Obituary - Ellen "Winnie" (Rupert) Young

Ellen "Winnie" (Rupert) Young, 90, of Oakmont, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the age of 90, in Westminster Place, Oakmont, 44 hours after her husband, Harry.

Winnie was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Oakmont, to the late Charles and Rose Rittwage Rupert.  She was the beloved mother of Charles "Tad" and his wife, Janet, of Hot Springs, Mont., William and his wife, Ellen, and the late Harry E. Young Jr.; grandmother of Jason Young, Andrew (Corinne) and Charles Young; great-grandmother of eight; sister of Ruth Rupert, of Oakmont, and the late Charles, Arthur and Wallace Rupert, Susan Kelly, Myrtle Braun, Elise Hamilton and Rose Carlson.

Winnie was a past matron of Star of Bethlehem and an avid knitter, making more than 80 Afghans and many, many dishcloths for family and friends. She worked as a telephone operator at the Oakmont office and later as a private branch exchange (PBX) operator for Peoples Natural Gas Company for 15 years.

Visitation for Winnie and her husband, Harry, will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont.  Services for Winnie and Harry will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow in Verona Cemetery, Oakmont.
