Obituary - Harry E. Young Sr.

Harry E. Young Sr., of Oakmont, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 15, 2013, at the age of 93.

Harry was born January 13, 1920, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Edward and Susanah Stotler Young.  He was the beloved husband of Ellen "Winnie" Young for 70 years; father of Charles "Tad" and his wife, Janet, of Hot Springs, Mont., and William, and his wife, Ellen, of Plum, and the late Harry E. Young Jr.; brother of the late Frank, Archie and James "Stoner" Young; grandfather of Jason Young, Andrew (Corinne) Young and Charles and Shane Young; and great-grandfather of eight.  

Harry was a member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of Verona Lodge 548, F&AM.  He served in the Army during World War II.  An avid golfer, with one hole in one on his scorecard, Harry had the honor of playing against Arnold Palmer when Palmer was still an "amateur."  Harry also was a member of the Alle-Kiski Sports Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1997.  He also was an 11 time club champion at Alcoma Golf Club.

After his retirement from Peoples Natural Gas Co., Harry worked at Colorwheel Interiors, Wildwood Interiors and Bloomers Floral Studio, to keep himself active.

Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow in Verona Cemetery, Oakmont.

Additional visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, due to the death of his beloved wife, Ellen "Winnie" Rupert Young, who died 44 hours after Harry. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont.  Services for Harry and Winnie will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
