From 1996 to 2008, she lived in Ashland, Massachusetts, where she was president of the Friends of the Ashland Public Library from 2000-2008, and led the Restoration and Expansion Committees by working closely with the library director on the design of the new $5 million, 22,000-square-foot library.  While in Massachusetts, Janet also worked as a job coach for the hearing impaired, and she volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity.  In 2008 she moved to O'Hara Township near Pittsburgh with her family.

Janet was a lifelong, avid gardener, whose knowledge and passion for horticulture will live on in the communities with which she shared it.  Janet's ashes will be placed beside her daughter Charlotte's ashes at The Homewood Cemetery by Frick Park, close to where she grew up.

Janet was a strong, determined, passionate person, who had the gift of seeing the best in people and a gift of vision that inspired everyone.  She believed that friends are the family we choose, and she chose a lot of family.  All her families, those she was born into, the family she made with Andrew, and those she chose, will remember her with love.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Hillman Cancer Center (checks payable to UPMC CancerCenter with “Janet Eames” in the memo line can be mailed to UPCI/UPMC Cancer Center Development, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232).

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday January 18 at the Homewood Cemetery Chapel - all welcome.
