Obituary - Melvin J. Smith

Melvin J. Smith, 92, of Oakmont passed peacefully December 8, 2013 in his residence, at the age of 92.

Mel was the beloved husband of the late Emma F. (Marino) Smith; dear father of Peggy (Stanley) Dedoszak, Sharon (Dennis) Bourdreau, Albert (Michele) Smith, Thomas (Debra) Smith, Garry(Colleen) Smith, Stephen(MaryPat) Smith and the late Jeffrey Smith; brother of Phyllis Owens and the late Gordon and Albert Smith.  Mel is survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Victoria D’Ambrosio. 

Mel served as an elder of the Oakmont Presbyterian Church, was vice-president of engineering at the Kellogg-American Company, was a member and past president of the Riverview School Board, and was a member of the Lions Club, Oakmont Elks, Oakmont Chamber of Commerce, the Oakmont Boro Council and the Verona Cemetery Board.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Friends will be received for a memorial visitation on Friday December 27, 2013 in BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue,Oakmont from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.  A memorial Service will be held at the Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave. Oakmont on Saturday December 28 , 2013 at 10:30 a.m.  THOSE ATTENDING, PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mel’s Memory to the Len Anderson Christmas Fund, PO Box 355, Oakmont, PA, 15139.
