Verona Borough's 5K and bike derby events are coming up this weekend.

Both events will be held on Saturday, June 8. Here are some details:

Verona 5K

The second-annual Verona Borough 5K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. Race-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children to register the morning of the 5K. The first 100 participants to register will receive a T-Shirt. The event benefits the Verona Streetscape Revitalization Project.

New this year, the event will be scored by The Runner’s High using the ChampionChip Timing System. On race day, runners will be issued a rental computer chip which is attached to the shoe lace and worn throughout the race.  Special mats at the finish will record a finishing time for each chip. All rental chips must be returned at the finish line. There is a $35 fee for each lost chip.

Bike derby

The bike safety derby for children will be held at the Verona Police Department parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During the event, which is sponsored by Verona police, children learn the ropes about how to ride a bicycle properly by participating in an obstacle course and watching videos about bicycle safety. There will be free food and entertainment.
