Celebrate Veterans Day With Some Freebies & Events

There are several things going on in the community to thank veterans.

There are many ways to celebrate Veterans Day in the community this year.

Veterans Day is on Sunday, Nov. 11. Here's a look at some freebies for vets and some events in the area.

Oakmont Carnegie Library

The Oakmont Carnegie Library will celebrate our servicemen and women this Veterans Day weekend. There will be displays throughout the library about services for veterans and their families and information about Oakmont's military history.

A moment of silence also will be observed at 2 p.m. Sunday around the flag on the front lawn. The public is invited to attend.

Exhale Yoga

In honor of Veterans Day, Exhale Yoga in Oakmont will hold a special donation class on Sunday at 11 a.m. This class will be free, but those attending are asked to give a donation of any amount. All proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.  

Parade

Redeemer Lutheran School in Oakmont will celebrate Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 12, with a parade at 10 a.m. All veterans and community members are invited to attend. The service begins at the church/school on Thirteenth Street and commences at the Oakmont-Verona Cemetery. Students and vets also will fill stockings for troops in the fellowship hall after the parade.

Oakmont Bakery

Veterans can get a free 16-ounce coffee and donut/cookie at the Oakmont Bakery on Sunday and Monday, Nov. 11 and 12, when they tell an associate they are a veteran.

Panera Bread

On Monday, Nov. 12, military personnel and veterans can receive a free You-Pick-Two at all 29 Pittsburgh area Panera Bread café locations—including the one in Oakmont—by wearing his or her uniform or by showing Military I.D.

Even More Freebies

Several restaurants and businesses are offering free meals, discounts and perks for veterans. A list of discounts provided by Allegheny County has been included in the media section of this article.
