Children Learn About Bike Safety in Verona

Several children attended the Verona Borough Bike Derby on Saturday.

Several children learned about bicycle saftey at the Verona Bike Derby on Saturday.

The event was sponsored by the borough police department, council and Dirty Harry's bike shop. 

Children participated in an obstacle course and received free helmets from the police department. Dirty Harry's employees were on had to inspect bicycles, and children also could register their bicycles with the police department.

As they waited, children watched a bicycle saftey video in council chambers.

Police Sgt. Jerry Frankos, who was running the program, said the event has been going on for at least eight years.

"It's really a great day for the kids," he said. "Hopefully they leave here learning something."
