Here are five things to check out this weekend.

Got no idea what you'll do this weekend? Patch is coming to the rescue! We've got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

It's a good idea to have cash ready for these events.

1. Friday Fish Fry
Where?/When?: Elks Oakmont Lodge, 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday.
Why Go?: Lent has begun and so have the fish fries! The Elks Oakmont Lodge will serve beer battered fish fillets as sandwich or plate, baked fish or fried shrimp plate, each with coleslaw and fries. Mac and cheese, haluski and desserts will be available. Fish and shrimp are cooked to order for eating in the spacious dining room or for takeout. There is free parking available.
Pricing: Fish is $8 for adults and $4 for kids, Shrimp is an up-charge of $0.50.

2. Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic
Where/When: Lowe's, 10 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Your child won't want to miss this Jimmie Johnson #48 race car! This kit comes with stickers and rumblin' race car sound effects!
Pricing: Free.

3. Learn to Knit Mittens
Where/When: Plum Borough Community Library, 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Join Mary Lou and Shirley at the Library to learn to knit mittens. You need to bring a pair of size 8 straight knitting needles, two skeins of worsted weight yarn, two stitch holders and a yarn needle. The mittens are knitted with two strands of yarn, so you may want to bring two different colors. Some basic knitting knowledge is necessary. Please register by going to the library, or by calling 412-798-7323.

4. Barker Shop Open House
Where?/When?: The Barker Shop, 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Join this new business for its open house! Get your pet's picture taken by a professional photographer with no sitting fee. Various packages and specialty products will be available for purchase. Each guest will receive a raffle ticket upon arrival for a great gift basket full of things you and your dog will love, including a gift certificate for free nail trims for an entire year. 5. Children’s Department Artwork Unveiling
Where/When: Oakmont Carnegie Library, 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: The Oakmont Carnegie Library will be unveiling artwork commissioned for the children’s area of the library.  The artwork is a series of literature based paintings and 3D characters created by local Oakmont artist Cy Assad. The project itself was underwritten by funds from the FOOLs, Oakmont Library’s award winning Friends Group. Stop by the library and view the artwork, speak with the artist and meet members of the FOOLs. Everyone is welcome and light refreshments will be served.
