Get Out Weekend Planner: Chess, Yard Sale and Fundraiser

Our top picks for this weekend.

Welcome to the new and improved Get Out Weekend Planner. We recently combined the Grab & Go Kids Planner with Get Out for a one-stop shop for fun weekend planning.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Where/When: , Thursday, 1 p.m.
Why Go: Kids in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to hear stories read by teachers. Adults are asked to remain with their children during the program. Register at the library.
Pricing: Free.

2.
Where/When: , Thursday, 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Why Go: Children ages 8 to 11 are invited to join the chess club. Stop in the library to register. Parents are asked to stay with their children during the program.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When:, Thursday, 6 to 7 p.m.
Why Go?: Children ages 5 and older can come to the library to use their imagination and building skills by playing with Legos. Registration is required.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: , Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m.
Why go?: You must be at least 13 years old to attend. The library will screen a movie that has just been released on DVD. There will be free popcorn and snacks. Pricing: Free.

Where?/When?: , Friday, 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Why Go?: This program, which is for children ages birth to 5 years old, is a great way for families to interact and socialize. The playgroup will consist of an hour of unstructured playtime for the children. Call 412-828-9532 to sign-up.

Where?/When?: 2621 Fairview Dr, Monroeville, PA 15146, Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why Go?: This sale features something for everyone. Items for sale include toys, NASCAR items, furniture, video games, books and much more. Everything will be half price on Sunday.

Where/When: Penn Hills YMCA, Saturday, 10 a.m.
Why Go: A New Charter School will be opening August 2011 in Penn Hills. Parents can come learn about this innovative, new school and find out how to enroll their children. This session is for children entering kindergarten through second grade.

Where/When: Pittsburgh Zoo, Saturday, 1 p.m.
Why Go: The zoo will be full of princesses ready to meet you. Register online, here!
Pricing: Member Adult: $40; Member Child: $30; Non-Member Adult: $45; Non-Member Child: $35; Under 2: $10.

Where?/When?:  , Saturday, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Why Go?: The Geri Palmieri Scholarship was established to honor her unexpected passing.  The proceeds benefit graduating business focused seniors in Gateway and Steel Valley school districts. .

Where/When: Joe’s Italian Ice in Penn Hills, Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m.
Why Go?: The Cub Scout Pack 899 is holding a car wash to raise funds for pack events. Come show your support at Joe’s in Alcoma Plaza.
