Welcome to the new and improved Get Out Weekend Planner. We recently combined the Grab & Go Kids Planner with Get Out for a one-stop shop for fun weekend planning.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Why Go?: Folk singers and instrumentalist, Ellen Gozion and Penny Anderson make up the Garden Gate. The two perform a varied program of traditional folk songs. Guests will hear ballads, love songs, play-party and gospel singing from the old and new worlds. Many may recognize some of the music from the popular movies Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?, Cold Mountain, Songcatcher and Winter's Bone.

Why Go?: This is a launch party for Pittsburgh Noir, edited by Edgar-nominee Kathleen George, a collection of crime stories. The book consists of 14 stories by a distinguished group of writers that showcase the dark underside and criminal tendencies of Pittsburgh. Why Go?: This program, for children ages birth to 5 years old, is a great way for families to interact and socialize. The play group will consist of an hour of unstructured playtime for the children. Why Go?: The Plum Science Department invites fifth-graders and their families to spend an evening of science and family fun! There will be hands-on science experiments like analyzing your genes, harnessing the power of electricity, creating dramatic chemical reactions and much more! Call 412-795-4880 to register. Why Go?: This showing is part of Oak's Theater's Ninth Annual Moonlit Matinee film festival, presented with the support of the ScareHouse. Airplane! will also play on May 21 at 12 a.m. There will be nightly door prizes!

Why Go?: Community Professional Fridays for families with young children is back. This week’s guest will be Kurt Kondrick from Early Intervention Specialists.

Why Go?: This refresher class is for ages 50 years or older who have taken the two-day class before and need to refresh their certification. The certificate must be presented and no older than three years. Registration and pre-payment is required. Bring your PA license and AARP card to class.

Pricing: $14 fee for AARP members, $16 fee for non-members

Why Go?: The Spring Craft and Vendor Show is part of the Deacons Helping Hands Fundraiser. Crafters and vendors will be selling their items to benefit people in the community that might be in need of help. A light lunch and a bake sale will be offered with all proceeds going to the fund.

Why Go?: Communication is the life blood in all relationships. However, clear and honest communication is something that most people lack. Why Go?: All proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Each team will consist of five team members. Participants should arrive at approximately 12:15 p.m. to begin registration. Bowlers will bowl three games of 9 pin no-tap on the same pair of lanes. An award ceremony to follow the third game. The event will also have a 50/50, basket raffles, lunch, a DJ and a Chinese auction. No alcohol is permitted.

Pricing: $15 per bowler or $75 per team
