We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with the family.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

This week, take the family to a fish fry or catch the parade downtown. Here are all the details as well as three other of our top family-friendly event suggestions for this weekend and the upcoming week.

When: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday

During Lent, bring your family to the fish fry at the local VFD. Support the department and enjoy a great meal. Fish fries also are available at Holiday Park and Unity fire departments.

Where: Boyce Park's Nature Center

Learn modern, pioneer and Native-American methods of maple sugaring at the Maple Sugaring Festival. Participants can enjoy free samples. Call to register.

When: 7:15 to 10 p.m. Saturday

Cost: $15 for 6 Cards

Bring the family to Our Lady of Joy for a night of Bingo. There will be a jackpot of $750 in 5 numbers and a $250 consolation! 

 

What: 2011 Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: Downtown Pittsburgh

Cost: Free
