The in Oakmont will be celebrating 10 years this weekend, and everyone is invited!

Those involved in the care and keeping of the Kerr Museum would like to extend their gratitude to those who have helped support the efforts in preserving such an important piece of local history for the past decade.

The house, built in 1897 for Dr. Thomas R. Kerr, is the epitome of the Queen Anne style and commemorates the lifestyle of a typical middle class family. Guests will journey through each room of the house to learn and experience what life was like in the first decade of the 20th century.

Music of the time, such as Ragtime favorites and barbershop quartet melodies, will fill the air as families discover old fashioned games consisting of jacks, hoop-rolling and hopscotch.

Children also will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture by creating their own Victorian crafts. The Frick Art and Historical Center will assist with the crafts as well as set up a “History Mystery” table.

Families will have the chance to “guess the gadget”; unusual tools and utensils will be displayed to guess their uses. The activity will surely provide insight into the Victorian’s passion for the latest devices and inventions of the time.

Activities also boast a Best Homemade Pie Contest where pastry-savvy bakers can enter pies from prized recipes and vie for the prestigious Blue Ribbon.

Visitors can enjoy nice cream, cake and lemonade on the porch of the Kerr home, and observe the show of classic antique cars and the Dexter Wagon.
