Lights Illuminate Verona-Oakmont Cemetery Flag

A newly-installed lighting system will illuminate the American flag during evening hours.

The American flag at the Verona-Oakmont Cemetery in Oakmont will now shine bright during the evening hours.

The cemetery, which is the resting place for many of the borough’s founders and veterans, is located between Tenth and Eleventh streets along Pennsylvania Avenue.

The flag can be found flying adjacent to the cemetery's centerpiece, a monument of a Civil War soldier.

The new lights were requested by local veterans, approved by the Oakmont Cemetery Board, installed by Wade Gauger of Gauger Electric Co. of Oakmont and funded with a $2,000 Grant by the Benevolent and P.

After veterans had made a request for lighting to Oakmont Council, the Oakmont Elks contacted the cemetery board and offered to support the project, which included some trenching and electrical conduit runs in addition to the lighting fixture.

The public is invited to view the lighted flag during the early evening hours in honor of and respect to our veterans.
