The Fourth Annual “Miles of Smiles for Carcinoid Cancer”—or "Miles of Smiles for Sunny"—5K race and one-mile walk will be held on Saturday.

According to the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation, carcinoid cancer and related neuroendocrine tumors are small, slow growing tumors found mostly in the gastrointestinal system, but can be in other parts of the body such as the pancreas and the lung.

Carney, who has received treatment in Switzerland, has tumors in her lymph nodes, liver, lungs and bones, according to her website.

Proceeds from the race will help pay for more treatments in Texas.

Due to the race, traffic on Ross Hollow Road will be interrupted from about 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Access to Rustic Ridge will be limited.

Borough officials don’t expect the delays to last much more than an hour.

Borough manager Mike Thomas encouraged participation in the event.

“It’s a very worthwhile cause,” he said, “with lots of things for families to do.”

The Midget Football field is located on Ross Hollow Road in Plum. The cost to race is $30 until race day and $35 the day of the race.

To register, see www.running4areason.org/smiles or stop by on Old Frankstown Road for an application.
