Military Connections Stuffs Christmas Stockings for Troops Overseas

See how you can help.

Christmas is fast approaching, and Military Connections is working to send Christmas stockings to troops overseas.

Military Connections operates out of Penn Hills and is run by Summer Tissue, Plum resident and Oakmont Chamber of Commerce director. This year, the organization is planning on sending Christmas stockings to U.S. Troops stationed overseas. The stockings will be filled with food, snacks and supplies.

Even though some troops have been moved from Iraq and the post offices are closing in Iraq, there still are hundreds of thousands of troops in Afghanistan, Germany and Kuwait.

Here's how you can participate:

Christmas Cards for Troops

Just a reminder that you can't mail a Christmas card to “Any Wounded Soldier” or “Anonymous Soldier.”  All forms of mail must have an individual name on the card or package. If you would like to send a card to a deployed service member you can send your card to Military Connections and they will include it in the Christmas mailing.

Christmas Stocking Project

A list of items that can be included in the stockings is available at www.militaryconnections.org. The top five needed supplies are canned goods with pop-top lids, granola bars, individual packs of crackers, lip balm and wet wipes.

A $10 donation will adopt a Soldier or Marine’s Christmas stocking. Military Connections hopes to ship about 11,000 stockings this year and needs help with monetary donations, supply donations and volunteers to stuff stockings.

Dates for stuffing are as follows:

Nov. 12, 13 and 20 at 11 a.m. On Nov. 25 at 6 a.m., the items will be transported to the Post Office.

Monetary and Supply Donations Accepted at:

312 Auburn St.,Pittsburgh, Pa., 15235.

Supply donations also are being accepted at Northwest Bank on Route 88 in Bethel Park.
