Plum, Oakmont & Verona Fish Fry Guide

Lent begins this week, so here's a list of local fish frys to get you through the season.

Lent officially begins this week on Ash Wednesday, and that means fish fry season is back!

Whether you want to support your church and local fire department, or just enjoy the social aspect of the fish fry, we’ve compiled a list of local spots where you can get your fish-sandwich and other Lenten favorites.

Plum

Holiday Park VFD—(This was our 2012 Readers' Choice winner) Meals are served Fridays during Lent, including Good Friday and Ash Wednesday. Lunch is held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and dinner is from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The fish fry is open all day on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Menu items include fish dinners, sandwiches, shrimp basket, grilled cheese and pizza. Items range from $1 to $8. Takeout is available. Delivery also is available for orders costing more than $12. Logans Ferry Heights VFD—Dinner is served Ash Wednesday every Friday during Lent from 4 to 8 p.m. Fish dinner is $9 and shrimp dinner is $8. For more information, call 724-339-2210 or visit www.lfhvfd.com.

Renton VFD-There's a fish fry every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. during Lent. Fish sandwiches, fish dinners, shrimp dinners, and crab cakes, fries, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese are on the menu. You can eat in or take out. Delivery is available for those in the Renton area. Call 412-793-3211.

Our Lady of Joy—The Our Lady of Joy Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Fish Bake beginning on Ash Wednesday and every Friday (except March 22) during Lent. The hours are between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Baked cod and breaded haddock dinners with mac & cheese and cole slaw, or baked haddock
sandwiches are the featured dishes. Eat-in and take out options are available. Proceeds from the fish bake will benefit a host of charities that the Knights support.

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church—Dinner will be held Fridays of Lent (except Good Friday) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the school cafeteria. Fish sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, fries, haluski, cole slaw and drinks available. There also will be featured dinner each week, including crab cakes, stuffed shells, seafood alfredo, eggplant parm and pierogies. Takeout available by calling 412-793-0555, ext. 241.

Unity VFD—The fire department will hold its annual Good Friday fish fry from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call 412-793-4411.

Oakmont

St. Irenaeus Catholic Church—Meals are served Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday, at Blough social hall. Lunch is held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; dinner is from 4 to 7 p.m. Meals include fried or baked fish, tuna croissant, shrimp, haluski, baked potato, pizza, macaroni and cheese, french fries and desserts. Featuring St. Irenaeus’ famous salad bar. The cost is $8 for and adult dinner, and includes beverages and salad bar; $5 for sandwiches. A la carte items available. Takeout is available. Oakmont Elks Lodge #1668—The Elks holds a fish fry every Friday throughout Lent and every second Friday of each month throughout the year. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Menu items include beer battered fish sandwich or plate, baked fish plate, fried shrimp plate—each includes a side. Fish is $8 for adults, $4 for kids; Shrimp is $8.50 for adults, $4.50 for kids. Fish and shrimp are cooked to order. Call 412-828-1668 after 4 p.m. for takeout.

Verona

St. Joseph Catholic Church—Meals will be held Ash Wednesday and Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the school cafeteria, 825 Second Ave. Takeout available. Those homebound can call 412-795-5114.
