Zombies are about to take over Verona—and they’re planning to revitalize the borough while they do it.
Lisa Fykes, owner of the Rivertowne Inn on Jones Street in Verona, is hosting the first ever Verona Zombie Bar Crawl.
The crawl takes place between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 and kicks off at the Rivertowne Inn.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Verona Revitalization Project.
The Revitalization Plan
Led by the Verona Business District Advisory Committee, the streetscape improvement plan includes 46 lights and landscaping along Allegheny River Boulevard; Center, South and East Railroad avenues; and James Street.
To help pay for the lighting project, the borough already has received two federal Community Development Block Grant funds obtained from Allegheny County of $143,000 and $150,000
Verona must also contribute cash or in-kind services to the project.
The borough also has hired Franco Electric to install lighting along Allegheny River Boulevard for close to $240,000, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
