Summer Food Service Program offered in Verona and Plum

Program offers free breakfast and lunch for children beginning on Monday.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will operate SummerFood, a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program for children and youths ages 18 and younger in economically disadvantaged communities, from June 20 through Aug. 19.

Nutritious meals for children will be available on weekdays for all children—up to 18 years of age—at Verona United Presbyterian Church, 566 South Ave. in Verona. Breakfast will be available from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Twin Boro Health Ministries is the sponsor for the Verona program, which is open to all children.

In Plum, children already registered for the program at Jubilee International Ministries, 200 New Texas Road, will have breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.

A site supervisor and accompanying staff will be present to ensure the well-being of the children.
