Sweet Saturday in Store at Boyce Park Maple Sugaring Festival

Boyce Park's Maple Sugaring Festival will be held this Saturday. The public will learn how trees are tapped for maple sugar.

A sweet Saturday is definitely in store for anyone who goes to Boyce Park.

The park is hosting it's Maple Sugaring Festival at the Nature Center in Plum from 11 a.m. to noon; and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Tammy Watychowicz, Boyce Park naturalist and horticulturalist, will be on site to assist visitors.

The Maple Sugaring Festival has been going on for more than 30 years. March is the month of the Maple Moon, and visitors can sample the sweetness of the maple season.

Those who attend the event can expect to learn about the pioneer, Native-American and modern methods of maple sugaring. They also can experience first-hand how to identify maple trees, tap them, collect sap and reduce it to syrup.

Visitors will enjoy free samples of maple sugar in a variety of forms including sugar, syrup, cream and taffy.  There will also be information sheets and maple recipes available.
