'Three Rivers Dash for Down Syndrome' Benefit to Take Place Oct. 15 at Hartwood Acres

The walk, formerly known at the Buddy Walk, has changed its name this year.

The Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh is making its 17th annual awareness walk more personal by changing the name.

The event, known by the National Down Syndrome Association as the Buddy Walk, will be known as the “Three Rivers Dash for Down Syndrome” in the 'burgh. This year's event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Hartwood Acres in Allison Park.

More than 2,000 friends and families gathered to celebrate last year’s event, promoting the acceptance of individuals with Down syndrome, and the association hopes to beat that number this year.

The day includes an awareness walk, as well as food, entertainment and activities for people of all ages and abilities. Money raised by donations and sponsorships stays with the local community and directly impacts families.

The cost to attend is $20 per household. Cash donations also will be accepted.

Online registrations will be accepted at www.dsapgh.org until Oct. 10. Paper registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 3. After these dates, anyone can register on the day of the walk.
