Volunteers Needed to Plant Western PA Conservancy Community Gardens

The work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens.

While driving in the region, have you noticed the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s community gardens?

These gardens, including the ones nearby the Plum-Oakmont area that are planted by volunteers each spring, have helped beautify the region.

According to the conservancy's website, corporate and organizational sponsorships and the work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens.

Volunteers are needed to help with this spring's community flower garden planting.

Planting dates for local gardens are listed below. All events begin at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted:


New Kensington

  • Route 366 near Tarentum Bridge—May 20

Highland Park

  • Allegheny River Boulevard at Washington Boulevard—June 1, 10 a.m.
  • Highland Park Bridge at Butler Street—May 15, 9:30 a.m
