Plum's 'Seussical' Wins Gene Kelly Award

Congrats to the cast and crew of "Seussical."

Plum High School's performance of "Seussical" won a Gene Kelly Award on Saturday. The musical won for Best Scenic Design, Budget Category III. Plum also was nominated for the following categories:

  • Best Musical, Budget Category III
  • Best Costume Design, Budget Category III
  • Best All-Student Orchestra
  • Best Ensemble
  • Best Actor—Connor Cook (Horton the Elephant)
Riverview High School's Maddie Kocur, the lead in this year's production of was nominated in the Best Actress category. The Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater recognize and encourage musical theater and arts education, according to the CLO website. The organization gives out the annual awards in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh. Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards and held at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh, the award ceremony features live performances from the best actor and best actress nominees, as well as those up for best musical. Nominees are from schools in Allegheny County. About 30 schools—including Plum and Riverview—participate.
