Plum Student Up for Gene Kelly Award Saturday Night

Jonathan Andrew has been nominated for best supporting actor.

Local high school students will be attending the Gene Kelly Awards tonight, Saturday.

senior Jonathan Andrew will be hoping for a win. The young actor received a Gene Kelly Award nomination for . This year, he played Oscar in Plum High School's production of "Sweet Charity." This is Andrew's third Gene Kelly nomination—he has yet to win one.

's performance of "" was not nominated for awards this year.

The Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater recognize and encourage musical theater and arts education, according to the CLO website. The organization gives out the annual awards in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh.

Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards and held at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh, the award ceremony features live performances from the best actor and best actress nominees, as well as those up for best musical. Nominees are from schools in Allegheny County. About 30 schools—including Plum and Riverview—participate.
