Thousands of residents in Plum and Penn Hills are without power Wednesday night.
A string of strong thunderstorms are sweeping through the area.
According to Duquesne Light, 1,600 customers in Plum and 1,200 customers in Penn Hills were without power as of 7 p.m.
Spokesman Joseph Vallarian said a total of 16,500 customers lost power.
He said crews are in the process of assessing damage, and concurrently restoring service. Also, company representatives at the company's Operations Center are using the automated switching systems to attempt to bring customers back on line where possible.
