Community Mourns the Death of 11-Year-Old

Members of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and School in Verona remember boy who drowned.

Members of the community gathered at a Mass Saturday night at St. Joseph Catholic Church to mourn the death of a young boy.

Christopher Myers, 11, drowned at Rosedale Beach Club in Penn Hills on Friday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports an autopsy performed on Myers' body was inconclusive and further tests are required.

Christopher was a fifth-grader at St. Joseph School. At the mass on Saturday, hundreds of students, faculty and community members paid their respects.

A faculty member who addressed the congregation at the end of Mass asked Christopher to look after all who loved him.

"We love you," she said.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today; and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Burket-Truby Funeral Home in Oakmont.
