Inbound Route 28 to Close this Weekend in Millvale

Here's a traffic update.

Southbound Route 28 will be closed at the Millvale Interchange (Exit 3) in Millvale this weekend, Sept. 21 to 24, weather permitting.

Crews will be replacing expansion dams on the bridges that carry southbound Route 28 over the Millvale interchange. The closure will occur from 8 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be detoured using the southbound on-off ramps at the interchange. Police will assist with traffic control to keep the detour routes moving.

Additional weekend closures are tentatively scheduled to occur on southbound Route 28 at the Millvale Interchange through October, according to PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi. He said information will be released prior to the next scheduled closure.

The work is part of $3.5 million project that includes bridge deck, bearing and expansion dam replacements, structural steel painting, substructure concrete repairs, milling and resurfacing, barrier and drainage upgrades and other improvements on Route 28 at the Millvale interchange. Overall work will conclude in late fall 2012.

Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays and changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.
