Oakmont & Verona Kick Off the Holiday Season Saturday

The annual Christmas celebration and parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 17.

It's time to deck the halls in the Twin Boros this weekend!

The Oakmont and Verona chambers of commerce are hosting the annual hometown Christmas celebration and parade on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The parade begins at 5 p.m. in Oakmont this year and ends in Verona. Ian Petrella, the actor who plays Randy Parker in A Christmas Story,  will be this year's parade grand marshal. Fans will have an opportunity to meet Petrella after the parade.

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. on Allegheny River Boulevard in Verona and end at 7 p.m. there will be music, food and visits with Santa Claus in Verona. Anyone interested in donating food for the Twin Boro Ministries Food Bank can do so at the food bank's kiosk.

In Oakmont, festivities begin at 5 p.m. on the boulevard and end at 8:30 p.m. The Western PA Youth Ballet will perform at 5:45 p.m. (they also will have a 6:30 p.m. performance at the Oakmont Carnegie Library), and there also will be musical performaces at the clock tower throughout the night.

Many businesses will have booths and will have their doors open throughout the evening, and there will be food. Santa will be available for photos near the Citizens Bank in Oakmont, and there will be many raffle opportunities.

Visitors also can enjoy horse buggy rides on the boulevard. Fireworks will go off at 8 p.m.
