Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School Hosts Walk to School Day

Request a Walk to School Day kit before Aug. 31.

Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School will host Walk to School Day on Oct. 5.

The event is an internationally recognized day that celebrates the benefits of walking by encouraging children to walk and bicycle to school. It is held annually on the first Wednesday in October.

By promoting walking and bicycling on a designated day and generating enthusiasm for the event, Walk to School Day promoters hope to draw attention to the need for safe routes to school and to encourage children to make walking and bicycling to school a regular activity, according to the Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School website.

Safe Routes to School is providing schools and organizations interested in participating the opportunity to register for free informational kits on its website. The last day to request the kits is on Aug. 31.
