Plum Street Bridge Improvements Begin Monday in Oakmont, Verona

Work begins on March 18, and the bridge is expected to close in April.

Work on a $1.2 million project to improve the bridge that carries Plum Street over Plum Creek in Oakmont and Verona will begin on Monday, March 18, weather permitting.

The project includes replacing the bridge deck, strip seal dams, sidewalk and parapets, substructure repairs, spot/zone painting, milling and overlay the approaches and other improvements.         

Short-term traffic restrictions will begin on Monday in the bridge area east Allegheny River Boulevard near the intersection with Dark Hollow Road. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane alternating use from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays as needed through the end of March.

According to the Oakmont Borough website, the bridge will close beginning on or around the week of April 8. A detour will remain in place until Aug. 30. For more information, click on the following links to the contractor’s notification and the detour map. PennDOT will release additional information prior to the closure. 

About 2,614 vehicles use this bridge on an average day. The bridge is currently rated structurally deficient (SD). When the project is completed, the SD rating will be removed.
