Rachel Carson Sustainable Feast to be Held Oct. 1

The event will be at Springdale High School.

The fifth annual Rachel Carson Sustainable Feast will be held on Oct. 1 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Springdale High School.

Rachel’s Sustainable Feast is an annual festival celebrating sustainable living and all things local. It is held in honor of Carson, the scientist, author and Pittsburgh native who helped found the modern environmental movement.

The festival focuses on the 21st century legacy of Carson’s life and work—the environment, conservation, sustainable living and environmental health. The festival will deliver messages of education and awareness to adults and children through the active participation of and eco-conscious groups and businesses.

This year, there will be live entertainment along with local and sustainable food prepared by top chefs at restaurants such as Six Penn and Avenue B.

The Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy will host an eight-mile hike from Emmerling Park in Indiana Township to the Rachel Carson Homestead in Springdale prior to the sustainable feast. The hike will be from noon to 4 p.m. There is a $20 per person fee for this hike, which includes admission to the Feast at the Homestead. Everyone is asked to meet at Springdale High School.

Tickets for the feast are available here. The pre-sale price is $12 for a member and $15 for a non-member ticket.
