Roadwork: Plum Patching, Bridge Work & Route 28

Here's a look at some work going on in Plum Borough and in the surrounding area.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews will be working in Plum and on surrounding highways this week, Dec. 10 t0 14.

Here's a look at what they'll be doing:

Plum Borough

Patching will occur on Hulton Road in Plum/Penn Hills from Milltown Road to Hulton Road this week.

Crews also will be performing pipe and inlet cleaning on Sardis Road in Plum from the Westmoreland County line to Drennan Road.

Highland Park and Tarentum bridges

Overhead sign safety inspections on the Highland Park Bridge (Route 1005) in Pittsburgh and Tarentum Bridge (Route 366) in Tarentum will occur on Monday, Dec. 10, weather permitting.

Work will begin on the Tarentum Bridge and once completed move to the Highland Park Bridge. Short-term lane closures and restrictions will occur as needed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. Only one direction will be restricted at a time. Mackin Engineering and the Sofis Rigging Company will conduct the work.

Route 28

Southbound (inbound) Route 28 in Pittsburgh and Millvale will be closed to traffic overnight Monday through Thursday nights, Dec. 10 to 13, weather permitting.

The closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Southbound traffic will be detoured across the 40th Street Bridge to Butler Street to Penn Avenue to the 16th Street Bridge. Traffic on the 40th Street Bridge will not be able to access southbound Route 28; access to northbound Route 28 and Millvale will remain open.

Northbound (outbound) Route 28 will remain open; however, intermittent traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less will occur as needed. To avoid possible delays, northbound motorists are encouraged to use the detour above as an alternate route in the opposite direction.

The closures and stoppages are needed for public safety and access as crews conduct demolition operations on several buildings at the Allegheny Auto Body location along southbound Route 28.

Motorists are advised to use caution.
