It's no question that Route 28 is undergoing a lot of work.
The work is part of $3.5 million project that includes bridge deck, bearing and expansion dam replacements, structural steel painting, substructure concrete repairs, milling and resurfacing, barrier and drainage upgrades and other improvements on Route 28 at the Millvale interchange. Overall work will conclude in the fall.
In the meantime, see what sort of restrictions you could encounter:
Work to paint lines on southbound Route 28 will occur on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 22 and 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Single-lane closures will be needed.
The northbound Route 28 off-ramp to Millvale will remain closed through Tuesday, Oct. 23. Traffic is being detoured using northbound Route 28 to the Sharpsburg off-ramp (Exit 5A), turning left at bottom of the ramp onto Bridge Street (Route 1001), making another left to access the southbound Route 28 on-ramp, and continuing south to the Millvale off-ramp.
Northbound single lane traffic from the 40th Street Bridge through the Millvale interchange will continue until Wednesday, Oct. 31.
Overnight closures of the on-ramp from Millvale to northbound Route 28 will continue through Nov. 30. Traffic will be detoured using the 40th Street Bridge to Butler Street to the Highland Park Bridge to northbound Route 28. Northbound on-ramp closures will occur according to the following schedule:
- Sunday through Thursday nights—8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Friday and Saturday nights—8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
